The Rangers Football Club plc was established in Glasgow in 1873 and celebrated 100 years as a limited company on 27 May 1999. The Club's home is at Ibrox Stadium, close to the city centre on the south side of the River Clyde and is well served by road, rail and air transport facilities. The Stadium has a capacity of over 50,000 seats and can cater for over 1,500 corporate entertainment places on match days, while all other supporters have access to comfortable modern concourses, fast food outlets, toilets and two giant TV screens. The Stadium is a major conference and banqueting centre and also has a unique award winning restaurant overlooking the pitch which is open to the general public for lunch and dinner every day. The Club has a pre-eminent place in Scottish football having won more than 100 major trophies including 49 league championships and the European Cup Winners Cup in 1972. The Club was also a founder participant in the European Champions League in which the Club participated again in 1995/96, 1996/97, 1999/2000 and 2000/01.Rangers football club was formed in 1872 by Four young men; Peter McNeil, his brother Moses, Peter Campbell and William McBeath. The name Rangers was adopted from an English rugby club. By 1877 Rangers football club made the breakthrough reaching their first Scottish Cup Final but unfortunately lost to Vale of Leven. Two years later and Rangers FC were back in the Final against Vale of Leven with the match ending 1-1. Due to the disallowed goal Rangers FC refused to turn up for the replay and their opponents were awarded the Cup. In 1894 Rangers football club won the Scottish Cup Final beating Celtic 3-1. Two more Cup Final triumphs followed, Rangers hammering Dumbarton 5-1 in 1897 and retaining the trophy by beating Kilmarnock 2-0 the next year. A historical moment for Rangers FC was during the season of 1898 – 1899 when they managed to win every single League game. In that same year Rangers Football Club Limited was established. Leading right up to the Second World War Rangers FC were one of the most dominant forces in the Scottish leagues. By the late 1920’s Rangers had already won the title five times during the seven seasons and that same year they won their first Double. Rangers FC continued to win the Championship for the next three seasons and won four more titles (1932-33, 1933-34, 1936-37 and 1938-39). The new Scottish Premier League began in the season of 1975-76. Rangers won the first Scottish Premier title by six points from runners-up Celtic. That same year they won the League Cup also lifted the Scottish Cup with a 3-1 victory. Rangers FC had achieved the Treble for the third time. They didn’t stop here and within 12 months they pulled off their fourth Treble. In 1988 Murray , a successful businessman became the new owner of Rangers. He invested heavily into the team which saw £90 million spent on players and £52 million on ground developments over the first 10 years.
