Company Information:
Tottenham Hotspur Plc is engaged in the operation of a professional football club in England, together with related commercial activities. Tottenham was formed in 1882 from a cricket club with the majority of its players being former pupils of St John’s Presbyterian School and the Tottenham Grammar school. The club, which was originally named Hotspur Football Club, originally played at Tottenham Marshes, moving to Northumberland Park in 1888 (by which time they were known as Tottenham Hotspur) and to White Hart Lane 11 years later. ‘Tottenham Hotspur remains the only team to win the FA Cup as a non-league club - they did so in 1901’. Spurs was elected to the football league in 1908 and saw a steady rise to an all-time high in 1951 when they won the Division One title. Their best ever period came under patriarch Bill Nicholson as they became the third team to win the league and the FA Cup double in 1961 and they retained their trophy 12 months later. 1n 1963 the club won the FA Cup Winners Cup and were the first British club to take the continental crown. A further European honour came with a UEFA Cup victory in 1972 but the clubs success did not continue and they sank into the second division in 1977 following the retirement of Nicholson. |
