Company Information:
Newcastle United Plc own and operate the English Premier League football club Newcastle United. The Group's revenue is mainly generated through ticket sales, viewing rights to matches, branded products and sponsorship. The Club also provide corporate hospitality, conferenceing and banqueting services. The Company re-registered on the London Stock Exchange in 1997. During November 1881, the Stanley Cricket Club of South Byker decided to form an Association Football Club. Their first year was a success and they decided to change their name to East End FC to avoid confusion with a rival club, the Stanley Club of South Durham. Shortly after this, another side from the area, Rosewood FC, merged with East End to form an even stronger side. Meanwhile across the city, another cricket club had started to take an interest in football and in August 1882, they formed West End FC. The regions first league competition was formed in 1889 and the FA Cup began to take interest. East End FC turned professional in 1889 which was a huge step for the club and in 1890 they took another huge step by becoming a limited liability company with capital of 1000 pounds in ten shilling notes. In 1892, the clubs rivals West End FC found themselves in serious financial trouble. They approached East End with the view of being taken over and by the end of the season some of West End FC’s players and most of the clubs backroom staff had joined East End FC. It was at this time that East End FC took over the lease on St James’ Park. In December 1892 the club was given a new name and a new image. Many names including Newcastle Rangers and Newcastle City were suggested but it was the name Newcastle United that was eventually chosen. Newcastle United Football Club Co. Ltd. Was constituted in September 1895. It was in 1893 that the team left their old red kit behind and started to wear their infamous black and white striped jersey they still wear today. |
